PRESENTATION: Susan’s 1 hr. presentation will take place in the large hall on the 2nd floor of the Native Sons of the Golden West building, 937 Coombs St., Napa (above Playful Digs). The entrance is on Coombs St. and an elevator is available for those who may have difficulty navigating stairs. Admission is free–please call in advance to reserve a space.

Vertical gardening is the latest, most talked about garden trend. Whether you’re interested in edibles, ornamentals or a little of both, taking advantage of vertical spaces is an easy way to take your garden to the next level. Filled with inspiring photos and innovative approaches, Susan’s presentation will highlight a range of vertical gardening ideas, including how to turn a fence into a focal point, hiding garden eyesores and easy living wall options for home gardeners. Samples of living wall systems will be provided as well.

Susan Morrison is a landscape designer and garden writer based in the East Bay. Her designs have been featured in various publications, including Cottages and Bungalow, Horticulture and Fine Gardening magazine, where she also contributes articles on design and plant selection. Locally, her no-lawn garden designs have been featured in both the San Francisco Chronicle and the Contra Costa Times.

Susan’s book, Garden Up! Smart Vertical Gardening for Small and Large Spaces, has been favorably received by magazines, newspapers and organizations all over the country, including Sunset, the Denver Post, the Chicago Tribune and The American Horticultural Society. CBS Radio News says “For anyone who has dreamt about designing a vertical garden, Garden Up is a must read!” In November, Amazon.com selected Garden Up as one of the best books of 2011.

Online, she connects with gardeners all over the world via Facebook, Twitter, and her blog, Blue Planet Garden Blog, and is a founding member of the Lawn Reform Coalition and Garden Designer’s Roundtable.  Susan is currently at work on her next book, The 50 Foot Garden – Design Solutions for Small Spaces.
