Napa Live: Inside at The Playful Garden!

MUSIC + LOCAL ART = A FUN EVENT  TPG color typeTHIS SUNDAY!

Inside & Out2

Mandolin and guitar2

THE MUSIC:

Have you ever heard Bohemian Nouveau? This wholesome, home-grown genre was created by local musicians John Kelly and Jennifer Jekel. Come to The Playful Garden this Sunday from 1-4pm to experience the music of this awesome duo! John’s vocals of traditional Celtic songs accompanied by Jennifer on mandolin, or Jennifer’s melodic and sensual mandolin accompanied by John’s bass-y and clever guitar will bring a smile to any audience, whisking the listener away to some far corner of the world through song.

THE ART:

We are thrilled to be showing the work of three new local artists at The Playful Garden:Crane

Juliane Poirier

Juliane uses watercolor, gouache and colored pencil to create highly stylized images of nature. An artist since childhood, she was influenced by her mother, Mary Jane Poirier and grandfather, Adelard Daniel Poirier, both highly-skilled representational artists. Juliane believes art is a spiritual path; she creates images purely for the sake of bringing joy and comfort to herself and others.

saguaro&woodpecker_dove_edited-1Kathy Dennett

Kathy has been painting Pennsylvania-Dutch hex signs (folk art in the round) for over 15 years. Many locals will remember (and may have purchased!) her beautiful, symmetrical signs which were displayed at the former Pearl Restaurant in Napa. In addition to painting in the round, Kathy also started painting with oils on canvas. “Loosing the rules of symmetry is quite freeing!” she says. Her oil paintings are colorful and stunning. You may see some of them incorporated into wine labels as well.

DeGingko Branch Mirrorborah Childress

Deborah Childress is a mixed media sculptor born in Marin County. She captures the elegance of botanical elements in her rich, detailed mirror frames, panels and boxes.

Deborah’s products are made using natural materials for impressions, then making two to four molds before going into production. Each minutely-detailed piece is hand cast individually in fiber-reinforced gypsum, hand detailed, then patinaed with four to six layers of metallic pigment. The result is a structurally strong, relatively light product that looks and feels like metal.

Duke the Dog Explorer Book Signing

Image

Please join us for our first event of the Holiday Season, to be held this Saturday from 1-4PM! It’s the book signing of a delightful book called “Duke the Dog Explorer,” written by local author Roseanne Kirby.

Roseanne and her husband, Bruce, have enjoyed the Napa Valley as home for many years. She was inspired and challenged to capture the story of their rambunctious pup (“Duke”) by friends and family. Duke’s antics are entertaining vignettes about their life in Napa and true stories of a dog looking for adventure in wine country. The book is beautifully illustrated by Dave Huddleston.

Image10% of our sales during the “Duke” book-signing event will be donated to the Napa County Animal Shelter.

The dogs and cats at the Napa County Animal Shelter get cold in the winter, too, and there is a need for used towels, sheets and blankets. If you have clean bedding to spare, please bring it with you and we’ll make sure it gets to the Animal Shelter.

There will be treats for everyone on Saturday afternoon–including your canine friends! Hope to see you there–
